2nd Classified Grand Cru
James Suckling 99
The concentration and generosity of the 2016 Pichon Baron is immediately essential, with aromas of incredibly attractive, ripe and ample fruit in the ripe range, black cherry, mulberry and plum. Notes of espresso and cedar, as well as a stoney mineral side reminiscent of slate, add complexity. The mouth displays remarkable depth, energy and precision. Fine, velvety tannins stretch the palate in all directions. So fresh and full of liveliness, he is the greatest Pichon Baron since 1989 and he has a long future ahead of him.
Jeff Leve 99
With a tannic, racy touch that accompanies all the freshness of ripe, sweet and fleshy blackcurrants in the mouth, the wine opens with notes of espresso, tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, black cherry, cigar box, undergrowth, red fruit and chalk. In a word, it's fabulous! The tannins are perfectly ripe, providing the ideal structure to highlight all layers of soft, textured, fresh, pure and racy fruit. The final, seamless, grabbed the palate and never let go. This vintage is in the running as the largest of Pichon Baron made by Jean Rene Matignon. To drink from 2022 to 2060.
